I am finally going through the KDE5 upgrade assault course. By manually un-emerging various KDE4 packages I got the plasma-meta installed. Now I am doing an update/world which almost works but I am blocked on kmail. I still use kmail-4.4 but I am getting a block with kdepimlibs-4.4.11, which is strange because kmail seems to need it:

    # emerge -avt kmail

These are the packages that would be merged, in reverse order:

    Calculating dependencies... done!

The listed packages need a kdepimlibs > 4.6 or 4.13, so 4.4.14 satisfies this! Can anyone see the problem?

Thanks
Robin

You need to unmask kmail!

Pay attention to the last column. kde 4 vs kde 5. 4.4.xxx clearly indicates just only by the name that you ask to use kde 4 package, which pulls in kde 4 related packages.

--

off topic:

BTW i only want k3b.

kde is broken in my eyes. regarding kde-overlay and kde5 from gentoo overlay
kde is broken in my eyes since a few days also when i remove kde-overlay and try to get it fixed only by portage using gentoo ebuilds only. "cmake" issues because of broken dependencies!
I'll wait a few weeks so the devs can fix kde5 from portage or the kde-overlay.

Hint if this is a mail application. Backup your mail and any valueable data before you upgrade.

The culprit here is kde-apps/kdepimlibs-4.14.11_pre20160211.

Mask it and re-emerge kde-apps/kdepimlibs-4.14.10-r2.

My setup is similar to yours: kde-frameworks:5, plasma:5 and mostly kde-apps:5, but kmail-4.4.2016.01 knode-4.4.2016.01 etc.

All is working fine.

>=kde-apps/kdepimlibs-4.14.11_pre20160211 is breaking POP3 for kde-apps/kmail-4.4.2016.01, that's why it is blocked.

Yes, that worked. I ended up with the following masks:
Code:

=kde-apps/kdepimlibs-4.14.11_pre20160211
>=kde-apps/akonadi-16.12.0
>kde-apps/libkdepim-4.4.2016.01

and now the update/world has no KDE blockages.

Thanks again!
Robin

Hmm, not completely solved yet. The update/world revealed several non-KDE blockages so I un-emerged three blocking packages (giflib, icu, ffmpeg) and then tried to rebuild:

Code:

topaz robin # emerge @preserved-rebuild -v

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!

emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs:4".
(dependency required by "@preserved-rebuild" [argument])
topaz robin # equery d kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs
 * These packages depend on kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs:
kde-apps/dolphin-16.12.0 (thumbnail ? >=kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs-16.12.0:5)
topaz robin # equery d kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs:4
 * These packages depend on kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs:
topaz robin #
topaz robin # eix kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs
[?] kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs
     Available versions:  (5) 16.08.3 (~)16.12.0
       {debug libav}
     Installed versions:  15.08.3(4/15.08)(07:48:52 20/03/16)(-aqua -debug) 16.12.0(5)(19:45:43 23/12/16)(-debug -libav)
     Homepage:            https://www.kde.org/
Description:         FFmpeg based thumbnail generator for video files

These type of errors really irritate me, there is absolutely no clue what ebuild is causing the problem. I can try manually rebuilding all the packages mentioned in the preserved libs list but does anyone have a better method? There does not seems to be a kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs:4 ebuild in Portage anymore.

Thanks
Robin

That makes indeed no sense. dolphin:5 correctly lists ffmpegthumbs:5 as optional dependency, not slot 4. Its last rdepend was digikam:4 which is gone. Time for some `emerge --depclean -a` to remove cruft?

--depclean will not work until I do an update/world. :? Catch 22!

Then find out what depends on ffmpegthumbs: equery d ffmpegthumbs
Is digikam:4 still installed?

Only dolphin and I rebuild that with -thumbnail just in case. No digikam:4.

Very strange. Imo it would be safe to remove the bogus preserved files then.

Hmm, not completely solved yet. The update/world revealed several non-KDE blockages so I un-emerged three blocking packages (giflib, icu, ffmpeg) and then tried to rebuild:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

These type of errors really irritate me, there is absolutely no clue what ebuild is causing the problem. I can try manually rebuilding all the packages mentioned in the preserved libs list but does anyone have a better method? There does not seems to be a kde-apps/ffmpegthumbs:4 ebuild in Portage anymore.

Thanks
Robin

Hi,
ffmpegthumbs:4 is installed
and in world file?

Try
Code:
emerge -av --depclean ffmpegthumbs:4

None of those things. I manually rebuilt the items in the preserved list and eventually the blockage cleared.
