Hi,

I have a Dell XPS 13, with a DisplayLink adapter. I have followed the wiki and setup my system on the laptop. But I am not satisfied with the configuration tricks of getting DisplayLink to work.

I found recently, DisplayLink has released their official driver for Ubuntu system, http://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu. Can we integrate this into Gentoo system. I hope this will make DisplayLink adapter much easier to use on Gentoo system.

Probably yes but not easy. First step is download and unpack with displaylink-driver-1.2.65.run --noexec --keep, then you can see in directory what's inside and read installation script.

Why not use it from one of the overlays, e.g. https://github.com/gentoo-mirror/mrueg/tree/master/x11-drivers/displaylink-driver?
Put this in your repos.conf:
Code:
[mrueg]
location = /var/repos/mrueg
sync-type = git
sync-uri = https://github.com/gentoo-mirror/mrueg.git
auto-sync = yes

@charles17,

Thanks for sharing the overlay.

Meanwhile, I read the official installation script...it was awful...they have one big script which creates other files using "cat"...and they use absolute path. What a madness~

Hi, i bought a zenscreen asus. It works perfectly with windows , and ubuntu. I tried to use the script (awful !) of ubuntu, (https://www.displaylink.com/downloads/ubuntu) but that don't work. The sceen is detected (MB16AP), the proprietary program DisplayLinkManager run. Il can see a created /dev/displaylink/by-id. But after a few seconds, the screen is deconnected.
It seems that ubuntu as a patched kernel to work with the evdi.
Is it possible to adapt for gentoo the script of ubuntu ?
Thanks, yann
