Hi. I am using Gentoo + Chrome as for the moment on my laptop. In the past I had Windows 7 + Chrome and from the bare point of observing the end performance as a day-to-day user I noticed that many web pages, for example Facebook are much less responsive on my current (Gentoo) setup. Do you happen to know if there is any known issue like that? Or is it that I might have misconfigured something? I'd really appreciate any suggestions, there are moments when the user experience is horrible because of that.
I am looking forward to hearing from you,
Take care,
rozyk |

Is a general issue or only a browser related?
You use google-chrome or chromium?
With others browser the problem persist?
If you launch chrome in a terminal report error?
What use flags, cflags,.. you use (post emerge --info www-client/chromium)?
Without informations is hard to help. _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

It's a general problem. The same issue occurs in Firefox. I'm using google-chrome-stable.

check your /etc/resolv.conf
those name servers are a really buggers sometimes.
for example, a good explanation
Quote: | If your ISP is having issues with its DNS service, switching to OpenDNS' DNS will get you back online in just a few quick steps. |
https://use.opendns.com/
I do not want to give any recommendations on which ones to choose
I used for a while my own resolv conf, and had it set permanently write protected so dhcpcd and my wlan adsl modem could not overwrite it. the responsiveness increased a lot here.

It looks like that:
Code: | cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
search home
nameserver 192.168.1.254 |

You might also try installing ublock origin or other add blocking add ons. Facebook tries to mine all kinds of data from you and a) you probably don't want this and b) it slows down your connection. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box. |

I have AdBlock installed. It looks like Chrome takes ages to process the webpage after it loads it. Can it be the case? The computer is not new, but also it's not really old. 1st gen Intel i7.
I have to wait 5 seconds before I can click on anything, responsiveness is just horrible. |

By slow response; do you mean slow at loading the page or slow when using (scrolling for example) the page? _________________ ..: Zucca :..

Try disabling hardware acceleration on Chrome Settings. I had a lot of headache (from time-to-time) with it on Firefox with my old laptop. |

I think it helped! I'll you know though when I am fully convinced, after using it for some time.
By the way, shouldn't it ACCELERATE instead of slowing down? |

It'll (propably) slow down if it can't find or use the required hardware to accelerate the graphics.
Please, mark the topic as [SOLVED]. _________________ ..: Zucca :..
