Running KDE.

Randomly (every few days - far too often), when returning to my computer, I see a black screen with the message:

Quote:

The screen lock is broken and unlocking is not possible any more.
In order to unlock switch to a virtual terminal (e.g. Ctrl+Alt+F2),
log in and execute the command:

loginctl unlock-sessions

Afterwards switch back to the running session (Ctrl+Alt+F7).

There is no loginctl command (or any file with that name) on the computer.

Any idea where I can find it (and any idea for what is causing this, and how to prevent it)?

loginctl is a systemd thing. If you don't have it you're probably not using systemd.

There is a bug here: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360489

I don't use kde so that's all I know :D

See can't unlock KDE session, loginctl req. but this is openrc (especially the post by julgo in that thread).

You are correct - systemd is OMDBware (meaning over my dead body will it ever be installed on any of my machines).
