Does LXQt/openbox offer the possibility to save the session before logging off?
Meaning, when logging back again to be able to restore things like qterminal with all its tabs and working directories, okular with all the open PDF documents, open editor windows, and so on.

In the past I used tuxonice
Code: |
* sys-kernel/tuxonice-sources
Latest version available: 4.5.4
Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
Size of files: 86.643 KiB
Homepage: https://dev.gentoo.org/~mpagano/genpatches/ http://tuxonice.nigelcunningham.com.au/ https://github.com/NigelCunningham/tuxonice-kernel
Description: TuxOnIce + Gentoo patchset sources

The requirements are a big enough swap space on the hdd, running this kernel and configuring it. |

The mainline kernel has hibernate support too, but that is not what OP wants. Hibernate support does not help if you intend to change to a new kernel version, or you need to log off to let another user log in. |

Roman_Gruber, thanks for your reply, but as Hu pointed out, i am not looking for hibernation but for an X session manager: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X_session_manager
LXQt has lxqt-base/lxqt-session but from what i can tell, it is unable to automatically identify the running applications and request them to save their state. As far as i can tell, the only option is for the user to add these applications to the session manager's list of "autostart" clients manually, one by one.
Most of the time this is probably OK: We usually want to start our DE with a small number of the same applications (terminal, etc.). But not always. For example, i would like to be able to restore a number of PDF files that were open when the previous session closed. They change from session to session, and there is no point entering them manually to the autostart list every time before closing the session! |
