Posted: Wed Sep 28, 2016 7:08 am Post subject: [SOLVED] GNOME Wont Boot With OpenRC |
|
|
I just installed GNOME without systemd
The emerge process went great everything worked.
I set my display manager in xdm to gdm
But when I type openrc to boot GNOME nothing happens.
It just moves me to the next line.
Any help would be appreciated

Remember, this configuration is unsupported, and support requests should be in the unsupported forum.
Are you using https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1022050.html as a guide and using dantrell's overlay?
What are you using exactly to start gdm??
Using
# /etc/init.d/xdm start
or
# service xdm start
?
Have you tested X11 to make sure it works by itself? If you ran startx or xinit, do they work at least? _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

I ran startx and it worked.
However openrc still fails to boot GNOME
Yes I did follow dantrell's GNOME instructions |

I tried /etc/init.d/xdm start and it said that it already started |

Is gdm running actually running or is openrc confused?
ps -ax|grep gdm
If it's not actually running,
/etc/init.d/xdm zap
What if you restart it?
/etc/init.d/xdm restart
I am only giving guesses based on trying to getting other display managers working under openrc, but I've never tried running Gnome under OpenRC (all my Gnome3 boxes are systemd.)
