I am running Gentoo on a VMWare Workstation 12 guest with open-vm-tools installed. I'd like to be able to add shared folders while the guest is running, but VMWare tells me I can't do that unless VMWare Tools is installed and running.
How do I let VMWare Workstation 12 know that I actually do have VMWare Tools installed? _________________ Dave |

From the host, insert the vmware tools cd. This is a menu option I think.
From the guest, run the installer in the cdrom drive. |

The CD-ROM option only works for Windows guests AFAIK.
You need to manually install the tools on the guest VM
Code: | emerge -v app-emulation/vmware-tools |

Actually, open-vm-tools is the name of the package, and I already have it installed.
I decided to use CIFS to share the folders from my Windows 10 host to my Gentoo guest. _________________ Dave |

When I used VMware it had the tools right on the "cd" image. For linux guests. I have to admit it's been awhile. |
