Anyone looking for help running GNOME without Systemd, please refer to dantrell's topic for support. Unless, of course, you are not using dantrell's overlays for that purpose in which case, please post in Unsupported Software as it is not presently a supported configuration either by upstream or by the Gentoo GNOME team.

Stuck and locked, support questions go to the linked topic. -- desultory

From 26 Mar 2019 GNOME 3.30 has been added to ::gentoo.
GNOME 3.30 can use elogind in place of systemd, so it works with OpenRC. At the time of writing GNOME 3.30 is in the testing branch.
For more details, discussion and support with GNOME 3.30 post in GNOME 3.30 for all init systems
