Hello. This is my first time with Gentoo and I am stuck at two things ( everything was done while reading the handbook, step-by-step )
I did this on the current pc ( right now i booted from a live cd ) and I cannot provide any log files with errors. I can go to the whole process again and post required log files, if any, using my phone to get a photo of the screen.
Moving on.
After I do..
Code: |
eselect profile set 3
|
( that is for desktop )
I do
Code: |
emerge --ask --update --deep --newuse @world
|
And I get error at unpacking phase. ( the error was something like "this doesn't look like a tar archive" )
I set the profile back to "1"
Code: |
eselect profile set 1
|
And let it be.
The next problem I got was at pciutils
Code: |
emerge --ask sys-apps/pciutils
|
Same error.
Where I did wrong or what is wrong and what can I do? |

Zaza,
Welcome to Gentoo.
It doesn't look like you have done anything wrong. Rather, it appears that emerge has tried to unpack something that is not in one of the formats it expected.
Don not repeat everything you have done.
mount your filesystems - they are still there.
mount /dev, /proc and /sys, just as you did for the install.
Now get into the chroot.
It will be as if you have never left.
Run the commands
Code: | emerge --info > /root/emerge.info.txt
lspci > /root/lspci.txt |
And
Code: | emerge --ask sys-apps/pciutils |
When this fails, it will leave a message on the screen telling where the log file is.
Copy this file to /root/
The three files we need to see in are in /root/ in your chroot.
Exit the chroot.
These files are now inside /mnt/gentoo/root
If your livecd has wgetpaste, you can put then on the web for us to find.
Code: | wgetpaste /mnt/gentoo/root/emerge.info.txt | and post the URL you get back.
Repeat for the other two files. _________________ Regards,

I booted Back and this time i let the portage make.conf unmodified ( i just added the -march=native cflag). But i have other problem. After compiling 2 hours the desktop profile, i went to compileze kernel. Electricity droped and now i cannot do emerge or make ( it says -bash make command not fiind ) same for make. What should i do? Should i make another topic? |

Zaza,
That's the hard bit done. Well done.
There is a large choice of GUIs. Each has its own guide on the Wiki.
You can install as many or as few as you like and switch between them. _________________ Regards,
