I had the same problem. Easy fix. Unmerge MPlayer, modify /etc/make.conf and add "dvd'' to the use = "........". Emerge MPlayer. Done.
You should now have DVD playback in MPlayer

Hmm i tried this, but it didn't seem to create the /dev/dvd
but i got ogle working by putting the path in the command like so..
#ogle /dev/hdc
and it's working now.. a little choppy. now i just have to get the DMA working... =)

My /etc/devfsd.conf has the following lines:
Code: |
# Create /dev/dvd for the second cdrom drive
# (change 'cdroms/cdrom1' to suite your setup)
LOOKUP ^dvd$ CFUNCTION GLOBAL mksymlink cdroms/cdrom0 dvd
REGISTER ^cdrom/cdrom0$ CFUNCTION GLOBAL mksymlink $devname dvd
UNREGISTER ^cdrom/cdrom0$ CFUNCTION GLOBAL
|
EDIT -- There was an error on it (should be cdrom0, was cdrom1) LINE 3

no need to mess with /etc/devfsd.conf, just:
ln -sf /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /dev/dvd |
