After that, I ran as follows.
root # layman –S
root # ( ulimit –n 4096 && emerge --regen )
www-client/chromium Overlay: gentoo (layman)
The following operating procedure was not able to run well.
user $ sudo nano –w /etc/portage/package.mask
*/*::gentoo
user $ sudo nano –w /etc/portage/package.unmask
foo/bar::gentoo
Error message [ Error writing /etc/portage/package.mask: Is a directory ]
My operation or procedure is correct, or whether there is a place which is wrong.
How modifications do I.

When I am using the "Mousepad" in normal user, an error message will not be displayed. |

For Chromium, Layman/Overlay is not needed.
Chromium will very likely be available from Portage as normal, for a long time, but Midori will be removed if not fixed.
About 'Error writing /etc/portage/package.mask: Is a directory': This directory can be removed, and then the file '/etc/portage/package.mask' can be created, but it may be better to leave it be, and create a file under it.
For example:

Or:
| Code: | | nano /etc/portage/package.mask/masked |
Name can be anything under this directory.
But again, you do not need to do this for Chromium. I only mentioned Overlay because of Midori, which will be removed from Portage soon (if not fixed), and when a package is not available via Portage, an Overlay can be used instead.
For Chromium, no need. :]

Thank you very valuable advice.

You need to add mmxext CPU_FLAGS_X86 in make.conf.
For message

To install the "www-client / chromium" to a virtual machine, it sounds like a high degree of difficulty a little for me now.
My thread here is, this article and the end.
Then, I seem to have had the "EarlyBird".
And I was able to explore a little bit the world of still many mysteries "Gentoo Linux", I was happy.

Chromium requires 6gb (from memory) to build, so I am guessing the ebuild fails and you get a message saying you have insufficient ram.
You can still build chromium, it will take a while to compile though; but you will need to set up some additional swap-space - here's one way to do that:
Take root on your vm and create a file
To create a 4G swapfile size: | Code: | | dd if=/dev/zero of=/swapfile bs=1G count=4 |
Secure it | Code: | | chown root:root /swapfile |
| Code: | | chmod 0600 /swapfile |
Turn it into swap space
And turn it on
Verify all looks good
To have the new swap persistent after rebooting, add this line in /etc/fstab
| Code: | | /swapfile none swap sw,loop 0 0 |
Now you should be able to compile chromium with the following command
| Code: | | I_KNOW_WHAT_I_AM_DOING=yes emerge www-client/chromium |
It will take some time to build. When using this method it is best to --exclude chromium from your regular updates and ie run it overnight every now and then to keep current ie: | Code: | | emerge --update --deep --changed-use --with-bdeps=y @world --exclude chromium |
