|
|
Hello,
I use an AMD R9 280X (Southern Islands) graphics card. The Tearfree/VSync Options never worked when set in xorg.conf but now it does (did I miss some patchnotes? forgive me if this is old news).
I added Code: | Option "TearFree" "on" | to the device section. In the corresponding wikis that option is labeled as "Intel only".
With that option enabled and VSync deactivated in the systemsettings of plasma (5.7.0) the 2D performance feels significantly better and no tearing!
I tested it with Openbox too (without a compositor of course) and no tearing.
Just wanted to tell you guys.
It would be nice if sb. who uses the older radeon module with the older chipsets tests that option too if it works then the wiki page should be corrected. That would help a lot of ppl with performance/stutter issues. |

Have just been setting up the amdgpu driver for my card and saw this post which then led me to this ... https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI#Performance_tuning
It works perfectly on my R9 380X (my old nvidia suffered from the only vsync on head 1 problem, so this is awsome as it works on both monitors!), thanks for the tip _________________ CFLAGS="-OmgWTFR1CE --fun-lol-loops --march=asmx86go" |

TearFree was added to radeon in April of last year, according to the changelog. |
