|
|
Hi all, it seems that Konqueror stops working properly with Plasma 5. Downgrading Dolphin reverts to a properly working behaviour, as it all seems to be related to Konqueror being still based on a KDE4 framework. However, now the only versions of Dolphin in portage are 15 and 16, which are KDE5 versions, which means I cannot downgrade to dolphin-4. So, are we being forced to use Dolphin as file manager, or is there a workaround to keep Konqueror functioning? |

konqueror has not been ported to KF5, so if you have been using it as a file manager this will not be possible after upgrade to KDE Applications 15.12.3. |

Alright, is there any plan to port Konqueror any time in the future or is it a lost cause? |

If you ask me konqueror looks like a dead horse right now, even though it has a frameworks branch that ever so often receives some commit. |

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of...
Any advice on a tabbed file manager with quick embedded configurable viewers (text files, pdf, images...)? Effectively a good replacement for Konq? |

It might be possible to re-introduce the functionality within konqueror (still kdelibs4-based then). |

OK, I tried a few other file managers, but none was to my liking, so in the end I just created a local overlay with dolphin:4 and masked all KF5 versions of dolphin for the moment, i.e., until konqueror gets completely ported. Let's hope this happens soon. |

It seems like in 16.04.3 you will be able to remove your overlay. If all goes well konqueror:4 is going to have USE=filemanager (to bundle the dolphin4 part) and will live happily side-by-side with dolphin:5.
EDIT: Btw, do you get icons on konqueror's introduction page? |

Uhm... with the old dolphin I do. With the new one all is broken, and if I attempt to do right about anything within konqueror in file management profile, it starts an infinite loop opening new konqueror windows that can only be stopped by going to a terminal (CTRL-ALT-F#) and using killall. |

I'm only asking about the introduction page. Because I don't see any icons displayed for 'Home Folder', 'Wastebin' etc. despite the paths to the breeze svg icons intact (and konqueror being able to render them on right click -> view image).
It is clear that file management is broken with dolphin:5 because that means there simply is no dolphinpart available to konqueror.
But anyway, USE=filemanager has landed, so watch out for 16.04.3 appearing in tree (final release is in two days) |

USE=filemanager seems to work fine. However pdf thumbnailing doesn't work in konqueror while it works in Dolphin (preview active in both cases). Anyone knows if konq and dolphin use different thumbnailers? |

Solved it by installing kde-apps/thumbnailers-4.14.3 (ignoring the file collisions and the blocking with the -O option), as konqueror still relies on the KDE 4 framework . Seems to work fine as I get pdf thumbnails in both dolphin and konqueror now. |

There's now konqueror-16.12.0 in tree which is KF5-based. |

Unfortunately there is no kde-apps/konq-plugins-16.12.0. kde-apps/konq-plugins-16.08.3 is blocking konqueror-16.12.0. |

Only if you have konq-plugins in your world file, which is wrong.
konq-plugins is part of konqueror-16.12.0 which is why there is a block. |
