I am looking for some decent program to act as cheap CCTV solution. Requirements are :
- Camera (one or more) is/are USB webcam detected through v4l or v4l2
- Video recording in video files, and with atleast half-decent framerate. Here comes my previous try with ZoneMinder, what let it down is, it saved the footage as series of JPEG photos. So fairly low framerate, yet it was using up the space on the drive quite fast in perspective for the footage framerate... I guess encoding that in video would be more space efficient
- Some basic GUI atleast for start/stop recording
- Way to change camera parameters like brightness/contrast (each camera provides different settings, usually a few numerical parameters)
- Time stamp in the video would be good
- Motion detection, remote access, etc not needed
Suggestions ? |

Now that media-video/motion is out of favor:
Quote: | - media-video/motion-3.2.12-r3::gentoo (masked by: package.mask)
/usr/portage/profiles/package.mask:
# Aaron Bauman <bman@gentoo.org> (26 Jun 2016)
# Unpatched security vulnerability and dead upstream
# per bug #475120. Removal in 30 days
- media-video/motion-3.2.12-r2::gentoo (masked by: package.mask) |
are there any other recommendations for a camera recording application with similar features? _________________ Andy Figueroa

There's currently a lot of renewed enthusiasm on the Motion mailing list over the past month or so. The project has been passed over to a new set of developers as the previous maintainer had little time. There's currently a new version, that had been previously forked, but is now the main release. Hopefully this will make it's way into being repackaged for Gentoo.
Cheers,
