I'm having trouble getting alsa to work.

I donwloaded from CVS, installed and compiled alsa some time before rc3 was released and got it to work, but now, nothing works..

If I try to load the snd-powermac module my computer freezes, really hard without a kernel-panic! All the other modules load fine!

rc2 from portage works fine here.

Modprobe (or insmod) snd-powermac allways crashes my iMac with Gentoo. With alsa-driver-0.9.0-rc2 and the latest CVS. alsa-driver-0.9.0-rc3 won't compile (even with env ALSA_CARDS=powermac)

I had it ( > rc2, < rc3) up and running with Mandrake but no other package expected it to work so they didn't support it...

if you have a dma power mac sound card, than you can use the installing guide frome http://www.ibooklinux.net/gh.php?single=68. I think so because you used the snd-powermac module. When I compile the sound system, I don't compile them as a modul as the guide explain I compieled it directly in the Kernel, because i only get the sound work wen i compile it in the Kernel! I don't know if this guide work on other machines than Ibook...
