Hi All,

I'm banging my head against a brick wall with this. nvidia-drivers emerge is failing.

I have the build.log here: http://pastebin.com/0f3rnyyG
And the environment log here: http://pastebin.com/fmwF9JBQ

I'm just using genkernel for now and will revert to own build later.

I have reviewed a number of posts which referred to geek-sources and/or applying patches. The first I have not tried and the second is beyond my skill set.

Any help appreciated.

Regards
Raoul

Hi Jaglover,

Thanks very much for your reply.
I tried the patches with both a 4.4 and 4.6 kernel but both without success. I used the patch in the shown in the last reply on the thread you replied with.

The patch.out is here: http://pastebin.com/PsQmE6du
And the build.log is here: http://pastebin.com/E6jEacEB

I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

Regards
Raoul

Raoul,

the patch is for x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-340.96-r5.

hi Jaglover,

I am trying to emerge nvidia-settings. Attempting this without any keywords it tries to install nvidia-drivers-340.93.r1 and nviidia-settings-340.58. From the text prior to the hyperlink in your poost in that other thread it implied suitability for nvidia-drivers-340.xx

I have also tried to apply ~amd64 keyword to nvidia-drivers and it installs successfully without any patch but I can then not install nvidia-settings as it downgrades drivers to 340.93.

Is there any mod I need in the patch to make it work for 340.93?

Regards
Raoul

If you build nvidia-drivers with the tools USE flag set then you do not need to emerge nviidia-settings since it is built by nvidia-drivers.

All,

I am still stuck with this issue. An upgrade updated gcc, so I have emerged libtool as per guide. I have also re-run genkernel after gcc and I am still running into issues.

nvidia-drivers (with ~amd64 keyword) installs with seemingly no issues.

I run nvidia-xconfig seemingly with success.

When I try to xterm or twm or startx it says no screens found and that it cannot insert module nvidia due to exec format error.

Regards
Raoul

exec format error - module is not compiled for running kernel.

Yes. Tho I am not sure what else to do. I am running the genkernel kernel most recently compiled.

Are you? Does uname -v print the correct time you compiled your kernel?

Hi Jaglover,

I did in fact get this working with a fresh install. I unmasked both nvidia-drivers and gentoo-sources and the installation was fine. I think I stuffed something else up with the kernel.

Thanks for your help.

Regards
Raoul
