yup, i need help.. again

cant change theme through the appearance menu (window manager themes are doing fine)
i am changing it, but it seems like _almost_ no effect = it appears in the file xfconf/xfce-perchannel-xml/xsettings.xml

and i tried to open appearance via terminal - no output so whatever.

i've installed x11-themes/gtk-engines-xfce and x11-libs/gtk+ and x11-themes/greybird
in desperation i even set up gtk3 use flag globally! (bad idea?)

Code:
x11-libs/gtk+
     Installed versions:  [b]2.24.29[/b](2)(12:41:46 PM 05/12/2016)(cups introspection -aqua -debug -examples -test -vim-syntax -xinerama ABI_MIPS="-n32 -n64 -o32" ABI_PPC="-32 -64" ABI_S390="-32 -64" ABI_X86="64 -32 -x32") [b]3.18.7[/b](3)(08:27:41 AM 05/11/2016)(X cups introspection -aqua -broadway -cloudprint -colord -debug -examples -test -vim-syntax -wayland -xinerama ABI_MIPS="-n32 -n64 -o32" ABI_PPC="-32 -64" ABI_S390="-32 -64" ABI_X86="64 -32 -x32")

Code:
 x11-themes/gtk-engines-xfce
     Installed versions:  [b]3.2.0-r200[/b](06:38:08 PM 05/13/2016)(-debug ABI_MIPS="-n32 -n64 -o32" ABI_PPC="-32 -64" ABI_S390="-32 -64" ABI_X86="64 -32 -x32") [b]3.2.0-r300[/b](3)(09:41:02 AM 05/29/2016)(-debug ABI_MIPS="-n32 -n64 -o32" ABI_PPC="-32 -64" ABI_S390="-32 -64" ABI_X86="64 -32 -x32")

is it because no i have two versions of gtk-engines-xfce installed simultaneously?
what am i doing wrong?

well.. that's embarrassing. this problem and many others was caused by my dbus service - somehow it was just off.

so
Code:
/etc/init.d/dbus start
solved that completely. may be it will save some time to another newbie like me.
