I have gentoo installed on my PowerMac G5. I want to set it up with 64base and 32 userland. However when compiling the kernel I get the following error:

Code:
(chroot) livecd linux # CROSS_COMPILE="powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu-" make && make modules_install
make: powerpc64-unknown-linux-gnu-gcc: Command not found
scripts/kconfig/conf  --silentoldconfig Kconfig

Sorry, GCC v4.0 or above is required to build the 64-bit powerpc kernel.
arch/powerpc/Makefile:317: recipe for target 'checkbin' failed

when I checked gcc i saw that the multilib USE flag was off

Code:
(chroot) livecd linux # gcc -v

UPDATE: It looks like all needed was to build the kernel using the following

Code:
make g5_defconfig
make && make modules_install

My system booted after that!

UPDATE I did not need to cross-compile to get a working kernel. I am up and running on my G5.
