Hey there, I'm new to Gentoo and Linux too and I'm trying to install Gentoo with systemd. Now the first time I tried emerging genkernel-next eudev blocked some package. I found out that eudev was masked by /usr/portage/profiles/targets/systemd/package.mask and so I just unmerged it. Now I get the following error:
Code:
No package 'libudev' found

Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively, you may set the environment variables LIBUDEV_CFLAGS
and LIBUDEV_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
See the pkg-config man page for more details.

I get the same error when I try to emerge libudev. I don't know what to do now.

Do you have "virtual/libudev" or "sys-libs/libudev-compat" packages installed?

I just looked it up and it seems like I haven't got any of these two packages. Trying to emerge virtual/libudev results in the mentioned error.

I have found the solution. I just had to run
Code:
emerge --update --newuse --deep @world
Afterwards I was able to install genkernel-next.
