|
|
I'm trying to play Legend of Grimrock in Steam through Wine. I created a fresh win32 prefix and used winetricks to install the necessary dependencies according to here and here:
Code: |
$ WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX=~/wine/log winecfg
$ WINEPREFIX=~/wine/log winetricks d3dcompiler_43 d3dx9_43 xact_jun2010 steam
|
Then I downloaded the game. Now, when I try to launch it, it always crashes during DXSETUP: http://ix.io/wU7
After I close that error and VCREDIST setup runs, it crashes with another error: http://ix.io/wU8
According to this guide it should work with Wine 1.4.1. I'm on 1.9.7. Is that the issue? Or do I need to use PlayOnLinux?
I'm using the radeon driver. |

Yes, I noticed that after I ran into problems. But it should work, right? |

What do you mean?
It did work for me a few years ago when i first played it on Linux.
It should work now too.
About wine - why bother if you have native steam and native game? _________________ Just a user. |

Indeed it would be nice if it worked, even if a native version is around. :]
Looking at the old test results, there should at least be hope. In fact, there might be regression lurking somewhere if it doesn't run at all with current versions. That said, as they are old, I would try without any of the suggested dll-overrides (that is, see how it runs out-of-the-box). I'd also try both, with and without staging enabled.
Adding to the long list of things to try myself... _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

I did not bother to open it up.
ATM I can't install it either, as steam is dead for me... _________________ Just a user. |

I know it seems silly. Thing is I spent hours trying to get this to work because I didn't think there was a native version, and now it's driving me nuts because it should work.
I might be a glutton for punishment, but I'd really like to figure it out and learn how to use Wine better.

I sorta remember running into problems before I learned to install d3d9 via winetricks, but I will try again and report back. Is there an efficient way to remove dlls installed by winetricks?

When I search for "winer tricks" I get some questionable results that probably have little to do with Wine (TM):
