Hello,
I updated my kernel to v. 4.0.5 and followed those instructions: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Radeon
I can't get KMS to work, the same settings work with kernel 3.19.x without any problem.
Xorg.log says KMS not supported and there are no Southern Island chipsets(TAHITI) listed, only predecessors.
The Console does not switch to the native resolution as well when booting up.
Any suggestions?
edit:
I got X.org "working" with kernel 4.0.5 but it was unstable as hell. Hardware accelerated programs made the computer crash. Sometimes it crashed instantly sometimes there were only graphic glitches.
There were some other very odd things happening too.
I never had such problems with my machine ever till now.
After several hours of trial and error I have to say that kernel 4.0.5 is a POS and very far away from stable.
Reverted back to 3.x |

I had that same problem when I upgaded displays. That really slow as hell was due to:
VIDEO_CARDS needs radeonsi (radeon isn't used) and you need the radeon kernel module (CONFIG_DRM_RADEON) and CONFIG_HSA_AMD (which produces the amdkfd driver). I am not sure if this only for the opencl stuff only but it doesn't hurt.
And then the performance for gnome is to say the least still crap. fglrx doesn't work and if we are lucky someone might support southern islands in mesa with AMDGPU in the future. I am not going to buy ATI again. NVIDIA for the foreseable future. |

I solved the issues. I had to change "Firmware blobs root directory" from "/lib/firmware/" to "/lib64/firmware/" in the kernel settings. |
