|
|
Following an update of the kernel I have re-emerged modules and noticed vboxvideo message from xf86-video-virtualbox package.
After a reboot, modprobing for the module yielded nothing, so I decided to install virtualbox instead of virtualbox-bin and BTW I'm -
happy to report that virtualbox 5.0.14 works on no-multilib profile (with unmasking it of course).
Now, my question is: unlike other vbox modules, vboxvideo needs to be added into xorg.conf under "Device" section - I gather that this is a replacement driver to use instead of my currently used Nvidia, right?
So users who already use radeon or nvidia already have 3D acceleration and have no need for vboxvideo - is that correct?
I tried googling, but unfortunately couldn't find much useful information.
Gentoo's documentation seem to include nothing about vboxvideo:

jhon987,
xf86-video-virtualbox is for use only in Gentoo guest operating systems in Virtualbox.
The real hardware drivers can only be used if the hardware is "passed through" to the guest. _________________ Regards,
