Piulena,
There are several versions of your network card. It depends on the vendor and device ID.
From your e2400 nic .. the Kernel Driver database says
Code: | vendor: 1969 ("Qualcomm Atheros"), device: e0a1 ("Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet Controller")
lkddb pci 1969 e0a1 .... .... ...... : CONFIG_ALX CONFIG_ETHERNET CONFIG_NET_VENDOR_ATHEROS : drivers/net/ethernet/atheros/alx/main.c # in 4.4, 4.4+HEAD | so the driver was only added in kernel 4.4.0, which is only a week or two old.
Its unlikely its on any liveCDs yet but if yo can boot into your own kernel, that kernel can be 4.4 and will support your NIC.
Its perfectly possible to install Gentoo with Sneakernet _________________ Regards,

Thanks for your reply.
Some further googling revealed the easiest fix:
"modprobe alx && echo 1969 e0a1 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/alx/new_id" |
