So I got gnome working with help from users here. Now I'm having trouble with restart and poweroff from gnome. When I click on either, nothing happens, the system just keeps running like nothing happened. I checked this
Quote:
I fixed it by adding a line to /etc/dbus-1/system.d/ConsoleKit.conf
<allow send_interface="org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager"
send_member="GetSessions"/>
and that line was already in there.
The only other thing I could find is this but I'm not sure how to proceed with it. https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=239231

A quick look at the history of your Gnome3 install leaves some questions I have:

- Did you have your /etc/make.profile set to gnome?
Code:

# eselect profile list

Is your systemd set up properly? You shouldn't be using ConsoleKit if you're using systemd (which is the default setup for Gnome3), but if you used the alternate "hack" method of using Gnome without systemd I'm not sure what breakage that could cause...

I had my profile set to desktop. I'm reading more on systemd now.

For the standard Gentoo Gnome3 install, you should have your /etc/make.profile linked to Gnome/systemd and be running systemd (instead of openrc).

Gentoo has docs on how to switch. You should have systemd installed already if you didn't do Gnome hacks to get it to install without it.

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Systemd

Gnome normally uses systemd through dbus to shutdown/restart the machine. I don't know if Gnome still supports ConsoleKit as ConsoleKit is also able to deal with shutdown/restart. ConsoleKit is needed for using OpenRC init.
