I updated my portage tree today and found these blockers:

Code:

...
[ebuild  N     ] kde-apps/dolphin-4.14.3:4/4.14::gentoo  USE="semantic-desktop (-aqua) -debug -handbook -thumbnail" 0 KiB
[blocks B      ] kde-apps/kwalletmanager:4[-minimal(-)] ("kde-apps/kwalletmanager:4[-minimal(-)]" is blocking kde-apps/kwalletmanager-15.08.3-r1)
[blocks B      ] kde-base/baloo:4[-minimal(-)] ("kde-base/baloo:4[-minimal(-)]" is blocking kde-frameworks/baloo-5.16.0)

Total: 85 packages (47 upgrades, 18 new, 14 in new slots, 6 reinstalls, 12 uninstalls), Size of downloads: 313074 KiB
Conflict: 17 blocks (2 unsatisfied)

 * Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
 * installed at the same time on the same system.

I am still using KDE-4.14.x and I want to continue to use it until KDE5 is stable and all apps are available (e.g. I can't live without knotes).

Typically, uninstalling some of the packages involved in the blocks helps get past such issues but not in this case.

Any ideas on how can I go past the above blocks?

Eventually, I masked kde-apps/kdeutils-meta-15.08.3 (to continue using 4.14.3 version of kdeutils) and built gwenview with the -semantic-desktop to work around these issues.

If you want to stay with KDE4, then do not install the 15.08.3 meta ebuilds. You can also mask any :5 versions simply putting `kde-apps/*:5` into package.mask.

The solution for your block:
Code:
[blocks B      ]kde-apps/kwalletmanager:4[-minimal(-)]
[blocks B      ]kde-base/baloo:4[-minimal(-)]

(notice the minimal flag)

Here is what was discussed in another thread about keeping KDE4 separate.
Use the following in package.mask:
Code:
kde-apps/*:5
kde-plasma/*
kde-frameworks/*
