I am running kde with alsa mixer installed. I have made sure my card is un muted, volume all the way up etc. And I have also made sure my user is in the audio group. I can hear everything when I do a sound test through the kde audio setup and also when notifications pop up, but otherwise there is no sound on my system. I tried for example youtube and nothing can be heard when a video plays. Any suggestions guys? |

I'm not sure what steps you have taken other than you have sound at some point. Here are the steps I take to get sound working via HDMI (kernel module setup not included) with ALSA only, no pulseaudio.
Setup
1. Copy .asoundrc to ~/
2. rc-update add alsasound boot && /etc/init.d/alsasound start
3. speaker-test -t wav -c 2
4. alsamixer (to complete step...volume must adjustment must work)
5. Close Kmix
6. rc-service alsasound restart
7. Open Kmix (setup channel, master channel and setup KDE audio)
Find out the hardware that Alsa sees:
aplay -l
.asoundrc example file
Code: | defaults.pcm.!card HDMI
defaults.pcm.!device 7 |
