I'm currently using
Code: | Linux localhost 3.14.48-gentoo #1 SMP Thu Oct 8 22:00:30 BST 2015 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux |
as when I use a 4.x kenel I get hard lockups under certain circumstances
I find while developing a libGDX or LWJGL application that I get intermittent hard lockups - I can greatly increase the chance of a hard lockup if I switch virtual terminal and back to X while there are a couple of 3d applications running
I'm currently using the following command line kernel params
Code: | psmouse.resetafter=0 | because the trackpad misbehaves otherwise
Code: | pcie_aspm=force radeon.modeset=0 nouveau.modeset=0 "acpi_osi=Windows 2013" | because the "official" ubuntu that came with the machine uses this
because regardless of 3.x or 4.x kernel in use swapping virtual terminal causes loss of horizontal sync (I think there may be a kernel patch for this?)
I was wondering how other people were getting on with hd5x00 as my previous laptop (now the wifes!) hd4000 gpu is absolutely rock solid and was kinda expecting the same for hd5x00
what with 6th gen intel gpu's needing firmware blobs - if they're going to behave similarly I might as well go the full hog with a binary driver next laptop and get something with an nvidia gpu.... stability really is key! |
