I just installed Gentoo on my new Asus ROG. Everything is working okay except for networking. The weird thing is: it ends up working, but I'm not sure why.

After the system boots, the ethernet connection doesn't work. I can probably bring it up by hand with ifconfig, but I haven't tried. Sometimes if I unplug the cable and plug it back in, it works. Usually when it works, it doesn't actually show the IP address its configured for, instead it shows one of the default IP addresses. It may work because IPV6 is running, I'm not sure.

The gateway is correct, but the destination is wrong.
I found a thread that discusses something similar, but I haven't been able to get it to behave.
Anyone been through this ringer?

The 169.254.xxx is telling you have a dhcp problem. You might try with a static ip address. |

The 169.254.xxx is telling you have a dhcp problem. You might try with a static ip address. |

DHCP does eventually work (even if it's not reported correctly by ifconfig which seems strange) and all of the other machines on the network don't have any DHCP issues.
I set iommu=soft in the kernel and that seems to have helped a lot of issues, including boot time (because of issues populating udev).
I still can't get wifi to work (even though I found the firmware on a developers branch of the iwlwifi-firmware git repo).
ACPI is a little noisy, complaining about the nvidia card and a few other things, but over all the system is working very well.
The last time I booted it last night ethernet came up right away with the correct IPV4 address. I don't know if that was a fluke, I got tired or rebooting to test it.
I'll keep pounding on it.
