I have this is /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf:
Code: | [greeter]
position = 10%,center 62%,center
background = /usr/share/pixmaps/somewallpaper.png
theme-name = Boje-Blue
user-background = false |
But the greeter just shows a grey background (consistent with that theme). The file somewallpaper.png has the same permissions as all the other files in /usr/share/pixmaps (-rw-r--r--), but only shows as the root bachground for the few seconds while I'm logging in (ie, when my mouse switches over to the custom cursor, but before FVWM sets its own root backgrounds).
What am I doing wrong?
Cheers,

Thanks for the reply. I don't think that's it, as I am already using the proprietary nvidia drivers (which appear to have solved the issue there).
Any other guesses what it might be? Permissions issue? Wonky config?

It's mean that greeter loads image properly and sets it as X root background.
1. Try to change theme, it can define some custom CSS that overrides window background.
Code: | theme-name = Boje-Blue |
2. Switch to another VT and then switch back. What you see?
3. Is color instead of image displayed correctly? |

3. When I set a background color, the same thing happens: the background stays a blank grey color (matching the theme) until I log in and it changes to that color while loading the WM.
I'll try a different theme and see if that changes anything.

1. changing the theme fixed the issue. Apparently "Boje-Blue" sets its own background. Too bad the only theme I have that doesn't is "HighContrast", which looks horrible. sigh
2. Switching VTs dumps me to the terminal. Unless the X manager is on VT 7? Is that what I should have hit to try to get back to the WM? I'll try that next time.
But for now, I guess I'll just look for a theme that lightdm-gtk-greeter can find that doesn't look awful.
