I have an MSI GE60 laptop, before upgrading to kde5 the function up/down keys would dim/lighten the screen but after the upgrade they stopped working. I know it still works as I can manually echo a value into /sys/xxx to dim it manually. Also the function left/right still works for controlling audio.

It this a known issue? I cannot find information on it anywhere.

You might want to look at this topic:

Do note that you'll have to modify my solution if there is no users group on your system but it is trivial.

That fixed it, and an easy fix too. Perhaps that should be added to an ebuild somewhere.
