I don't know if this is linked to the ncurses issues that popped up lately so I give it a try. I am unable to build ncurses (and other packages like gawk too) because of this failure:

gawk: symbol lookup error: /lib64/libreadline.so.6: undefined symbol: UP


Also tried to replace libreadline by the one from the stage 3 archive but it didnt work out.

Yeah, my testbox is plagued by the same issue after one of the ncurses updates went wrong. No idea right now how to recover.

Solved it.

Tried to re-emerge sys-apps:gawk. This didnt work so I copied the binary from the stage3-archive to /usr/bin/, after that emerge worked.
