Newbie to Gentoo here. After much perseverance and learning, I have come to a wall in my Gentoo installation. I haven't been able to find a solution to my problem anywhere, so here goes.

First, I attempted to install a kernel so I could compile like the Handbook says. However, Emerge failed. I then tried to install genkernel, but got a similar error, the build.log of which is below. I can't for the life of me figure this out. If I haven't posted enough information please tell me and I will be happy to provide more.

I am not using any of those, I don't think. Should I? I've simply tried to follow the handbook to the letter.

CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS in your make.conf should be -O2 (the letter o) not -02.

I am not using any of those, I don't think. Should I? I've simply tried to follow the handbook to the letter.

CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS in your make.conf should be -O2 (the letter o) not -02.

Well er, now I feel kind of stupid  It seems to be working now. I also appeared to have had some duplicate cflags in my make.conf. I'll get back if there are more problems with emerge though.
