|
|
I have been having an issue with "repeated entries of Home, Root, Network and Trash" in the Places section of Dolphin. I was following this thread:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1020126.html
but the rememdies didn't work. By chance during a new install after initially logging in, there was a message that basically said:
"/home/user/local/share/user-places.xbel was having a problem being accessed. There are a couple of reasons why: permissions or the disk is low on space. This will be the only time this issue will be reported"
I opened dolphin and the "repeating entries in Places" was fixed. I continued and installed several programs at once but after their installation I noticed the "repeating entries in Places" issue was back. I had to do another new installation, so I decided to change the install process and install one program, reboot and then test dolphin to see if the error re-surfaced. I did this for each program and found that kde-misc/homerun was causing the "repeating entries in Places" issue. To correct the issue I did the following:
1. Disabled kde-misc/homerun via add widgets
2. Executed the following:
rm ~/.kde4/share/apps/kfileplaces/* && rm ~/.local/share/user*
3. Rebooted
4. Opened and closed Dolphin three times while verifying the correct entries in Places.
I have several other installations with the same problem. I repeated the same four step process and "repeating entries in Places" issue was resolved each time.
Now the question is....do I post this as a bug for kde-misc/homerun? I would really like to start using kde-misc/homerun again.
I'm using:
Gentoo amd64
KDE 4.14.8
kde-misc/homerun-1.2.5
Thanks |

I just guessed that you may be low on inodes. thats some aspect of a file system. (this sentence in particular: permissions or the disk is low on space. This will be the only time this issue will be reported" )
http://www.cyberciti.biz/tips/understanding-unixlinux-filesystem-inodes.html
depending on your file system you can read out the free inodes of it ... |

I just tested version kde-misc/homerun-1.2.4 and got the same result on a previous computer that failed with version kde-misc/homerun-1.25. I going to post a bug for this issue. |

The message "permissions or the disk is low on space" happened on only one computer, the last computer I tested to find out that Homerun was the current issue. All other computers (approximately 10) with the "repeated entries of Home, Root, Network and Trash in the Places section of Dolphin" are not having the same "permissions or the disk is low on space" message.
Thanks |

Lastly, I have tried a couple of other KDE launchers ( Application launcher menu and Lancelot) and didn't have the "repeated entries of Home, Root, Network and Trash in the Places section of Dolphin" issue. |

Looking for other users that are effected with the repeating Dolphin-Places entries due to homerun to test this possible solution.
Here are the steps to replace Dolphin with Dolphin-15.04.3:
1. Add KDE overlay
sudo layman --fetch --add kde
2. Create /etc/portage/package.unmask
<kde-apps/dolphin-15.04.50
3. Add to package.accept_keywords (for amd64)
kde-apps/dolphin ~amd64
4. Update and install
sudo emerge -auvDN @world
5. Enable / install homerun
sudo emerge -av homerun
6. Reboot
7. Test Dolphin
Open and close Dolphin 3x and make sure the repeating entries doesn't occur.
This solves the repeating Places entries but creates a new quirk.
In Dolphin...you can't move entries around (for example, move Root entry from 3rd position to 2nd postion). If you do, Places, Recently Accessed and Search For sections are removed. The Devices section is the only one left. Three computers I tested have different degrees of this new problem.
To solve the new problem, disable the homerun widget or uninstall. |

Here is a fix for the Homerun / Dolphin issue.
1. Create the following file:
/etc/portage/patches/kde-misc/homerun/nofavorites.patch
diff --git a/components/sourceregistry.cpp b/components/sourceregistry.cpp
index d2df116..e63cd50 100644
--- a/components/sourceregistry.cpp
+++ b/components/sourceregistry.cpp
@@ -268,7 +268,9 @@ SourceRegistry::SourceRegistry(QObject *parent)
d->m_availableSourcesModel = new AvailableSourcesModel(d->m_sourceInfos, this);
d->m_favoriteModels.insert("app", new FavoriteAppsModel(this));
+#if 0
d->m_favoriteModels.insert("place", new FavoritePlacesModel(this));
+#endif
d->registerSource("InstalledApps", new InstalledAppsSource(this),
i18n("Installed Applications"),
2. Compile and install:
sudo emerge -av kde-misc/homerun
I got this from a dev. I tested it on several installs and found no issues. I can't support the fix so please use this fix at your own discretion. |
