|
|
I noticed after I emerge new packages, and when I reboot my compuer, I get a strange message about crons. I figured it was related to env-update, so I ran the command by itself and sure enough it does. Here is what it gives me:
-----
wyk root # env-update
>>> Regenerating /etc/ld.so.cache...
* Caching service dependencies...
* Service 'vcron' already provide 'cron'!;
* Not adding service 'vixie-cron'... [ ok ]
wyk root #
-----
Not sure what caused it, but I did a GRP install (which gave me a bad KDM, but I did emerge sync and emerge world, and the newly compiled binaries worked) and updated with emerge sync and emerge world.
This popped up, so I deleted vcron from startup. Well, that diddn't fix it, so I'm stuck as to how to fix this. Never had it come up. Any help would be appriciated.

Started to write (wrote) a lengthy piece about GRP-provided vcron being called something else than the portage-provided one, but scrap that:
- they are both in portage, are exactly the same program, and may even have exactly the same ebuilds!
So, unmerge the original (purge it) and emerge the new.
Ignore env-update crap until then. |

Okay, I unmerged the program (had to do emerge unmerge vixie-cron) and emerged it again (now as emerge vcron) and the message still doesnt wan't to go away. Any other ideas? |

Have a look at your /var/cache/edb/virtuals file, make sure the entry for virtual/cron is the same as the version you have installed. _________________ Search | Read | Answer | Report | Strip |

I had this issue but already forgot the fix. It's in bugzilla somewhere, under a solved bug. _________________ Want Free games?

And don't forget to check afterwards...
Code: | rc-update add vixie-cron default
/etc/init.d/vixie-cron start |

tomk pointed out that there are a lot of people having issues with this. The official solution thread is here: Minor service dependancy annoyance... Please post there for further assistance on this topic.
