Quick question:
When I run pouetChess, it tries to open, crashes and I'm left with a low resolution screen.
I thought I'll try opening it in Xnest or Xephyr, but apparently these two packages only come with xorg-server and require USE flags. Not, knowing if this solution would work or not, I figured I'd ask first. I know there are other screen programs out there. I currently have a 64-bit Nvidia video card, but thought that should be plenty for this game to operate soundly. I could be wrong. I'm not a big gamer, and don't know much about these topics.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

You could try in VNC as well.
Can you change the resolution back to what it was before (either use the desktop environment display setting options, or using xrandr)?
But in either case it should not crash the X server (is it, or is it just crashing itself?), Are you using nvidia-drivers or nouveau or something else? _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

I tried changing the resolution back with xrandr. I have awesome wm set up, and don't have the xfce4 or lxde display settings configured to the menu. I wasn't getting no where with xrandr, so I restarted the environment with a reboot.
This is what's listed as a kernel driver when I run
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev b2)
Subsystem: CardExpert Technology GeForce2 MX Jumbo TV
Kernel modules: nvidia
Video on mplayer and gtk all seem to work fine. I did emerge the nvidia-firmware at first, but removed it. My card is an older card--close to extinction. lol. But, no, it seems to run fine on everything else. That's the first problem I actually ran into.

I got it to work. I went into lxde, where the game opened. In lxde, I reset the game's resolution. It now opens in awesome wm.
An odd fix, but it worked. |
