Hi, due to a CPU change I was forced (read: I did't want to frickle around THAT much) to reinstall Gentoo and kept my old home partition ofc. Now I reinstalled Steam from the overlay and Steam itself starts fine, but no game will start and the Terminal output relates to a missing Steam running. So I looked up in the ~/.steam directory and discovered that the root and steam symlink there link to itself (while the other ones rely on the steam and root symlink). So I manually set the those pointing to ~/.local/share/Steam and every game worked fine then. So I looked what caused that, quit the Steam Client and restarted it to discover that the Steam Client itself messes up with those symlinks on startup. Why is Steam doing such crap? Any (non-dirty) way to fix that? |

I had all kinds of wierd problems with steam.sh and few other scripts. One of them was symlinking issue a bit different to yours. I spent hours trying to figure it out, and trying a different terminal emulator was the answer. I guess that steam.sh uses some advanced scripting, that TE messed up. It's a long shot, but easy to test. rxvt worked for me, while tilda didn't. |
