Printing: Lan -> Router -> WLan-Printer ?

  • Quote

Post by Mati » Sun May 03, 2015 11:41 am

HI,

my machine (no WLAN) is connected via LAN to the router which communicates via WLAN to the WLAN-printer. Is it possible to print from my machine via LAN->WLAN and if so, what do i have to do/install as package?

Thanks a lot!

You just need cups and it should work the same way as for the Brother networked printers.

Mati,

Your router needs to be able to route traffic to the WLAN and accept replies from the WLAN.

NB accepting replies is not the same as allowing the WLAN to connect to the Wired LAN.
The latter is insecure but most home routers won't know the difference.

Mati,

Add cupsd to the default runlevel and start it if its not running.
Browse. to localhost:631 and set things up.
If you are asked for a username and password, its root and roots password.

Thanks, i started the cups service and can connect to http://localhost:631/admin/. However, it does not find any printer. "No printers available".

By choosing add printer i don't know which type to choose or how i could figure this out. Its simply a wlan-printer communicating with the router...

Any hints how to proceed?
