Please use pastebin or something of the sort to report full log output, or paste the last 50 or so lines. I haven't run across this yet as I've stopped using samba, and not quite enough info to help debug... _________________ Intel Core i7 2700K/Radeon R7 250/24GB DDR3/256GB SSD

Samba4 needs heimdal instead of mit-krb5. Do you have mit-krb5 installed instead of heimdal?
I can't remember precisely what I did to migrate from Samba3 to Samba4, but it was something along the lines of:
| Code: | | # equery depends mit-krb5 |
and re-merge all those packages with USE="-kerberos" (add to package.use), then do:
| Code: | # emerge -C mit-krb5 samba
# emerge heimdal
# revdep-rebuild -i
# emerge @preserved-rebuild
# emerge samba |
Check if your smb.conf is still valid:
| Code: | | # testparm /etc/samba/smb.conf |
and fix it if it isn't.
I don't use GNOME, but, from what I've read, it still needs mit-krb5. Therefore I assume you need to stick with Samba3 for the time being if you're a GNOME user. _________________ Clevo W230SS: amd64, VIDEO_CARDS="intel modesetting nvidia".

All of the Samba packages in portage (unless from overlay) has a hard dependency of >=heimdal-1.5[-ssl] now, so mit-krb5 isn't an option (throws some blockers if you even have mit-krb5 installed).
I'd try recompiling heimdal again, see if that will fix it. |

It's heimdal (one 'L'), not heimdall (two 'L's) that you need for Samba4:

| I can't install samba-4.1.17 for another reason: subunit package doesn't provide an *.pc file for pkg-config to work and give waf (python configure script used by samba to build itself) the correct version information for subunit. Don't know if there's a workaround for this kind of situation... |

*subscribing*
just ran into this mess
as virtual/krb5 provides either app-crypt/heimdal or mit-krb5
it needs to stay
For reference:
the following packages either needed to be (re-)emerged or the use-flag python added for samba to start to configure and build:
| Quote: | sys-libs/tdb python
sys-libs/tevent python
sys-libs/talloc python
sys-libs/ntdb python
sys-libs/ldb |
there's no dependency for a package with python use-flag enabled - for sys-libs/tevent - in the samba ebuild
but samba clearly wouldn't pass configure/checking stage unless it was enabled _________________ https://github.com/kernelOfTruth/ZFS-for-SystemRescueCD/tree/ZFS-for-SysRescCD-4.9.0

This is still not working with samba-4.1.18. I just had a hard time emerging these 2 packages:
| Code: |
[ebuild N ] net-fs/samba-4.1.18::gentoo USE="acl avahi cups fam systemd -addns -ads -aio -client -cluster -dmapi -gnutls -iprint -ldap -quota (-selinux) -syslog {-test} -winbind" PYTHON_TARGETS="python2_7" 0 KiB
[ebuild N ] net-misc/smb4k-1.2.0:4::gentoo USE="(-aqua) -debug -handbook" LINGUAS="de -bg -bs -ca -ca@valencia -cs -da -en_GB -eo -es -et -fi -fr -ga -gl -hu -is -it -ja -ko -lt -mai -mr -nb -nds -nl -pl -pt -pt_BR -ro -ru -sk -sv -tr -ug -uk -zh_CN -zh_TW" 0 KiB
|
I followed kernelOfTruths advice to no avail.
Only fix as suggested here is to emerge heimdal with USE="-threads".
