Hi,
I know that I can set CPU affinity with taskset or cpuset, but that way I'm using only specific cores for a given process. What I want to do, is to tell the kernel to give a process a specific number of cores, and let the scheduler decide which cores to use, and how intensively to use them. Is such thing possible? Even if modification of the kernel code is required?

Hu, first of all, thanks - I wasn't aware of the functionality described there.
But it is not what I was looking for: this describes how to allow a process to fully utilize a limited number of CPUs, but what I'm looking for, is a way to limit the number of CPUs available to a process, while allowing other processes to run on these CPUs as well. |
