LXDE and Razor-QT merged and today, they released their first beta:
http://sourceforge.net/p/lxde/mailman/message/32310545/
Looking forward to trying this out. Is there an overlay that has it available yet? |

Last time I looked that overlay was woefully out of date. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

I checked over the qt layman overlay and there are quite a few updates according to the git logs w/ current dates. Perhaps you should sync your qt overlay repo and take a second look? :) I'm installing/testing the software now.

ganthore,
Thanks for the info. I followed razor-qt with interest, and always liked LXDE.
Please post back when you reach any conclusions about where the lxqt project is currently at, especially if you run into any major problems.
If known, is lxqt going to require using the lxqt-lightdm-greeter? I'd really like to try lxqt if I can still use kdm. Basically, I've always been a hardcore kde user for over ten years. I haven't been running any overlays in the last 3-4 years, but this is definitely tempting. _________________ Main box- AsRock x370 Gaming K4

kdm is going away anyway, so you will have to get comfortable with sddm or lightdm soon |

Since I've always been a fan of razorqt, I installed the 'qt' overlay and allowed emerge to autowrite-mask my /etc/portage/package.keywords/package.keywords file.
Unfortunately, the emerge of 'lxqt-meta' failed: Code: | -- Looking for IceConnectionNumber in ICE
-- Looking for IceConnectionNumber in ICE - found
CMake Error at CMakeLists.txt:131 (find_package):
By not providing "FindQTXDG.cmake" in CMAKE_MODULE_PATH this project has
asked CMake to find a package configuration file provided by "QTXDG", but
CMake did not find one.
Could not find a package configuration file provided by "QTXDG" with any of
the following names:
QTXDGConfig.cmake
qtxdg-config.cmake
Add the installation prefix of "QTXDG" to CMAKE_PREFIX_PATH or set
"QTXDG_DIR" to a directory containing one of the above files. If "QTXDG"
provides a separate development package or SDK, be sure it has been
installed.
-- Configuring incomplete, errors occurred! |
The version of 'cmake' I'm running is: Code: | [I] dev-util/cmake
Available versions: 2.8.10.2-r2 2.8.11.2{tbz2} (~)2.8.12.1-r4 2.8.12.2{tbz2} (~)2.8.12.2-r1{tbz2} {emacs ncurses qt4 qt5 test vim-syntax}
Installed versions: 2.8.12.2-r1{tbz2}(10:25:45 PM 05/06/2014)(ncurses qt4 -emacs -qt5 -test)
Homepage: http://www.cmake.org/
Description: Cross platform Make |
Since this is from an experimental overlay, I'm not sure what to report and where. I'm assuming that 'dev-util/cmake' may need to be patched to add the correct path[s].
But then, that's just a guess as I'm not a real programmer and don't even play one at the local playhouse.
Then again, perhaps I'm too eager and I need to wait for the rest of the 9999 packages to make it to the gentoo portage tree.
For what it's worth, these are the packages pulled in by 'lxqt-meta'. The above failure was during the emerge of the first listed package: Code: | # emerge --autounmask-write lxqt-meta

@wrc1944,
As dufeu noted, the lxqt-meta ebuild fails to install but the desktop software is still able to run. I installed all the software from the qt overlay through the 9999 ebuilds.
The desktop env seemed to run OK but themes appeared to be off for me... With a little tweakery through the GUI I got the overall desktop theme to look a little nicer. As of now I'm annoyed with the left application menu looking flat when the menu is open.
I noticed over the course of last night and today that more and more packages were finally being released into the official portage tree (as baaann pointed out) so I'll need to go back and re-test it on the stable version! I didn't really have any time to do it earlier today due to all of the memorial day festivities. _________________ Regards,

they seem to have some of the lxqt 0.7.0 ebuilds/pkgs but some of the the ebuilds still need cleaning up.
lxqt panel shouldn't be pulling in the mount addon if mount use flags isn't set.
They have libsysstat in their twice once masked on use flag and the other just set.
I would give them a few more days to a week for completely getting everything set and cleaned up.
The only part that I'm really interested in at the moment is lxqt-panel, but it's not as polished as the gtk version, at the moment. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

I have no doubt that it will get better in time.
I did look at the 9999 version about a month ago and wasn't too impressed.
But I could see the potential was there and eventually gtk2 will quit being maintained.
I know that the lx people have said they won't abandon the gtk version,
but if the toolkit quits being maintained then it becomes a static dead-end.
Right now I run the whole lxde suite, but the only thing that I regularly use is the panel and a few things like the image viewer.
And I'm thinking of just going to straight openbox and just starting the panel from there.
So I could use either the gtk or qt version.
Not trying to dissuade others just giving some thoughts. _________________ PRIME x570-pro, 3700x, 6.1 zen kernel

Looks like lxqt-meta is up in full force in portage, so guess I'll give it a try.
Code: | gentoo-audio wrc # emerge lxqt-meta -pv
These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Is there any easy way not to use qtchooser?

You need to upgrade or remove Qt 4.8.5. The Qt5 ebuilds are only installable next to Qt >=4.8.6 (or no Qt4 at all). _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

so an easier way would be to upgrade qtcore-4.8.5-r2 or remove qt at all?
I removed all qt packages and made global -qt4
Now to add ~arch keywords to lxqt-base packages
But is it good to leave -qt4? _________________ cogito ergo sum |

If you don't want any packages to opt for qt4. It is not a problem. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

removing -qt4 made qtcore-4.8.6 wanted to be emerged but it failed
I think I will just leave -qt4 there
is it worth bothering to have qt4 installed? _________________ cogito ergo sum |

Just for the sake of it? No. If you are a developer who needs it, then yes. Or if you have other applications that need it, then it will be pulled in as dependency. _________________ "Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves." - Abraham Lincoln

I don't need it as long as I don't want to use KDE4 again
kdelibs-4.x will pull qtcore-4.x but then I will make a new topic having issues with QT4
