First, use 'start-pulseaudio-x11', then check if both 'aplay /dev/urandom' and 'paplay --raw /dev/urandom' produce sound - though if the result will be that pulseaudio is still not running, you'll need to check its log to see why. |

when I do start-pulseaudio-x11 its say:
W: [pulseaudio] core-util.c: Failed to open configuration file '/home/shachaf/.config/pulse//daemon.conf': Permission denied
W: [pulseaudio] daemon-conf.c: Failed to open configuration file: Permission denied
so I did it when Im root and:
W: [pulseaudio] main.c: This program is not intended to be run as root (unless --system is specified).
E: [pulseaudio] main.c: Daemon startup failed. _________________ New to Gentoo ~~~ <(^.^<) |

That's kind of nonsense - why is that file not owned by the user ?
Also, why is that file there in the first place ? What did you put there ?
Oh, and running pulseaudio as root...not really something you'd need/want except for very special cases... |

have you added your user to the audio group?
Code: | usermod -aG audio <your username> |
(I think you'll have to logout and log back in after that to have it working if that's the case) |

My machine cannot make any sound as well.
paplay and aplay produce silence too.
aplay -L lists two PCM, null and pulse. pacmd ls produce none.
But usermod solves it all. Thank @genoobish here. |
