What's the booting order in BIOS? Is the machine able to boot other CDs? _________________ --kirill |

So what's up, does the pc actually recognize it as a bootable one and the problems come up only after the kernel has started loading? if so, you'll need to make some research on passing optional parameters to the kernel (and which paremeters ) _________________ --kirill |

No that is the problem, it isn't recognized as a bootable cd. Anyway can you start the installeation from a running version of linux? |

Yes it is, that's what I actually do because I don't have a CD burner.
In this case you could, lets say, just directly jump to the chapter 6 of the Installation Guid and start setting up partitions. When ready, you need to mount the very same Gentoo CD (hopefully it will work this time) and extract... well, just follow the Installation Guide
good luck _________________ --kirill |

Another option is to boot from a floppy to do the install. _________________ "An empty head is not really empty; it is stuffed with rubbish. Hence the difficulty of forcing anything into an empty head."

Sure, just follow Install instructions but start with chrooting. Then just untar the stage1/2/3 tarball you want and keep folllowing instructions.
This way you can start a Gentoo 1.4 installation inside of a working Gentoo 1.2 (much safer since you have a backup system). |

Oh and thanks for these notes. I was really looking for something like this for one of my older computers.
Thanks a bunch! |
