|
I'm having a problem installing this package. I downloaded the tar.gz file from Oracle and placed it in /usr/portage/distfiles.
Code: | elias@EpicLinux ~/Downloads $ ls /usr/portage/distfiles/ | grep jre
jre-7u71-linux-x64.tar.gz
jre-7u76-linux-x64.tar.gz |
Then I get the following error trying to emerge it:
Code: | EpicLinux elias # emerge -avuDN oracle-jre-bin

Looks to me like the jre tar.gz is corrupted. If you go back to that Oracle download page, they list the file sizes of those and there is a link to a page with md5 checksums of those downloads you can check against. |

I have the same problem, but I did not have such problems before.
My question, why should I do this (code bellow), as I did not earlier and it worked for years (since 2005)?. Is it safe to change default system permission? Or maybe something should be done with Gentoo system, so those permission should be set automaticly?
Code: |
Kod:
chown -R portage:portage /usr/portage/distfiles/jre-7u76-linux-x64.tar.gz
chown -R portage:portage /var/tmp/portage |
Code: | # ls -ls /usr/portage/distfiles/
total 62288
62288 -rw-r----- 1 user user 63777545 Mar 17 14:38 jre-8u40-linux-x64.tar.gz |
Code: | # emerge -uDN world

While I'm not sure of the cause to the change in the default behaviour, it is perfectly safe to change ownership / permissions of the downloaded file to portage:portage. Compare the permissions with everything else in /usr/portage/distfiles and you'll see that all auto downloaded packages are in fact portage:portage. The difference is that you had to manually download the file, so it ended up with different ownership. |
