bammbamm808, et al ... I'd agree, though its not all chocolates & roses ;)
We should look to this as desirable, and so do our best to be helpful, civil, kind, etc ... but we should also allow for disagreement, as these can be on substantive issues (however minor the points might seem). That's part of what makes us a community, the ability to disagree yet maintain some level of civility, and co-operation. That isn't always easy as some of the major points of disagreement here are about the imposition of choices, and the rational given for them ... and of course that violates the basic principle involved in co-operation (and so the very reason to be 'civil').
That's part of why things get so heated, people have a basic resistance against being told whats in their best interest, or being defamed for disagreeing with someones idea of what that best interest is. I'd rather have a heated, even uncivil, discussion than issues such as these being swept under the carpet (so, that we seemingly "get along").
best ... khay |

Oh yeah, that's true. Though I was more agreeing with mv about how Gentoo is still the "rebel alliance" if you like, in that it's the only long-running distro where you can still use whatever you want. And jonathan that people still get along fine, and mostly what I see is a community of users helping each other to QA the distro.
Both of them made a similar point to me, in that people argue wherever you go. That's just the nature of things.

Sure, that's all we've ever been saying.

No worries; glad we could clear the confusion up.
Whatever you do: Have Fun. :-) |
