Hey im doint my stage1 install on my ss20. Im at the point of editing /etc/fstab, and i see that /dev/sda4 (root) shows up as xfs filesystem, when it should be ext3. Whats up? I did not choose the xfs filesystem, i wouldnt want that. Is there a way to change it now? I dont want to have to go back and include it in my kernel and recompile that... Anyone have any ideas? |

that's the point: you should edit fstab to tell him to use ext3 and not xfs (which is only here to show an example) |

Uhm no one keeps you from changing the example filesystem entry in fstab to what you really have... *sigh* _________________ Gentoo Linux/Sparc Developer

Ok I was thinking that it pulled the filesystem information that it had read from my disk. And I do remember not including xfs support in the kernel, it just kind of made me stop. I didnt want to have to start the kernel again. |

Yeah, i just thought that it read straight from the disk, and i was panicking. I didnt want to screw anything up this far into the install and was just being OVERparanoid.
Maybe though, since the install gives a 'typical' drive layout. Maybe the part about editing /ect/fstab should echo that. I mean, if the 'default' is ext3, then fstab shoudl also be that way, so as not to freak us noobs out. Just a thought. Its no big deal. Most of you guys have forgotten more about linux than I will ever know. So dont take it for granted. But for the first or second timers, it can be a bit daunting. |
