|

I have Plymouth with Dracut initramfs installed. Everything works mostly correct accept Plymouth just shows "?%% ?%% ?%%" in the centre of the screen with the openrc text on top of those symbols and I'd like help correcting this. I have Intel KMS/frame-buffer enabled, and Plymouth, and Dracut set up as per the Wikis and guide:
http://gentoo-en.vfose.ru/wiki/KMS
http://gentoo-en.vfose.ru/wiki/Plymouth
http://anderse.wordpress.com/2011/09/06/plymouth-on-gentoo-funtoo-revisited/
This is my /etc/dracut.conf
Code: | omit_dracutmodules+="usrmount dmsquash-live iscsi crypt dmraid gensplash livenet lvm mdraid nbd nfs ssh-client syslog debug ifcfg network url-lib dm"
add_dracutmodules+="plymouth caps dash i18n fstab-sys"
hostonly="yes"
mdadmconf="no"
lvmconf="no"
#ro_mnt="no"
#nofscks="yes"
#tmpdir=/tmp
#add_drivers+=""
#filesystems+=""
#fscks=""
|
This is my /etc/default/grub kernel command line stuff
Code: | GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="rw raid=noautodetect quiet splash initrd=/boot/initramfs-3.16.1-gentoo.img i915.modeset=1"
|
Thanks for any help.

I recently experienced that with a kernel update.
Saying that though with a recent sysd migration its only there for like 2seconds _________________

I'm planning to continue using openrc. |

Stupid auto complete... Ssd migration... I'm on openrc and plan to stick with it for quite some time.
Aside from that no idea what causes this _________________

Ah yes, good. I have an SSD as well, but I still want that 3 second boot splash. I like the idea of my Gentoo installation looking "friendly" until you get into the OS. I actually plan to use a Windows or Mac booting screen for some giggles.
And I still haven't figured it out. |

I have the same issue on a systemd system, so it's probably not related to the init system. This is frustrating because it used to work...
I'm also using the i915 driver, FWIW. |

Yeah, I have been of the opinion that it might be an issue with the configuration of my kernel (though I am sure I have done everything needed in every combination I can think of) or perhaps something with the preconfigured initramfs programs. I couldn't figure it out and I'm not experienced enough to be certain yet. I think I'm just gunna go with fbsplash, or whatever the static splash thing is called, when I have time. |

Have you tried using <plymouth-0.9.0 (e.g. 0.8.8)? That resolved my issues. See bug 517572. |

downgrading to 0.8.8-r5 fixed the issue.
So there is something in 0.9 that is causing the problem _________________
