Hi guys!
Recently I updated two Gentoo installations and got a headache. Sometime I can not boot the system.
I see kernel messages that runs out of screen and suddenly boot stops. It occurs at the same message every time.
Nether xorg.log nor dmesg contains any related information.
Here is screen photo at fault point

Both systems stops boot process with the same messages.
NVidia driver's version is 340.24, It built against kernel 3.12.21-r1.
Is it kernel issue? Or NVidia? |

It's look like your kernel video driver in use is not appreciated by the proprietary Nvidia driver. I do not use the proprietary Nvidia driver, but I know you must use a kernel video driver who is compatible with it. One between vesafb, uvesafb, efifb for EFI boot system, simplefb or vgafb could be a good choice.
If you dont boot directly in graphical mode with Xorg when you start Gentoo, you can blacklist the nvidia module to be able to boot. Than load it manually for X. _________________ Paul |

To load nvidia module with modprobe on every boot? Hmm, I prefer to downgrade both kernel and nvidia. |
