I am having trouble finding the tarball to install from. I have read there is a "stage 3 tarball" available somewhere here online. I can't seem to ftp to a distro repository. How can I get this tarball and install from scratch. |

What you are looking for is the Gentoo Handbook. It includes all the information you should need, barring complications. I do recommend that you use the System Rescue CD instead of the minimal one offered by Gentoo. There is no functional difference as far as installing Gentoo is concerned, but the system recuse CD includes a much more user friendly environment and better hardware support.
A list of official mirrors is maintained here http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors2.xml, but they won't do you any good if you don't know what to do with them. _________________ First things first, but not necessarily in that order.
Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box. |

In the same link you can download de minimal CD to begin the install and the liveDVD (2012). Both have a complete and powerfull tools.
Other option to start is Hiren, http://www.hirensbootcd.org/download/. It is my favorite to make partitions and disk maintainer.

billcu,
After William Hartnell left, Dr Who was all downhill.
Anyway, sorry for the off topic post. _________________ Regards,
