Sorry for the OT post, but i was thinking, why isnt there like a sparc.gentoo.org where we can have working conf files that people can d/l and what not? Bazik has a nice site with his hardware list and all, something like that would be sweet imo.

BTW, If anyone has a conf file for 2.6 smp on a sparc 20, im interested. :D

Excellent. I've bookmarked that. That should definitely be in the FAQ.

Im just curious (and by NO MEANS an expert) but why is it that with that sparc32 2.6.0 test 11 conf, that its netboot only? I still dont fully understand most of these innerworkings, so if it seems like an easy answer to you, its not to me. :D

I've got 2.6 from the sparc-dev-sources booting. It took a few rebuilds to turn off options that were failing.

FYI for those with second video cards - 2.6 seems to probe the framebuffers ignoring the openfirmware settings. This means that if I compile the Mach64 and Creator3D console support into the kernel then the console is connected to the onboard console rather than my Elite3D which is my primary display.

Also, with 2.6 X will not start. The problem seems to be that the afb firmware is not loaded. (However my startup scripts are supposed to load the firmware during boot by the afbinit script.) If I manually try to load the firmware using afbinit /dev/fb0 then the machine hangs forcing a power cycle.

Ok guys I got the NVRAM invaild option in Compile.
Searched forums saw one or two hit saying remove NVRAM.
How can I do that ???

using linux-2.6.0-test11-sparc sources only one that emerge -s found. for 260 sparc.

Looks like config is set for module. :-(

snip> CONFIG_NVRAM=m
So now I just got to find it in menuconfig. :-)

FYI, the ultra 1 doesn't have an hme. The ultra 1E does, however...

So if SOLARIS listed it as a hme0 i'm an 1E??? :-0
I just inherited this system and Solaris 9 was first install on it. :-)
Got gentoo installed and it work fine.

Just moving to 2.6 kernel.

FYI I did find the NVRAM in menuconfig under CHAR devices :-)

Uh, that or you have an sbus HME card :)

The 1E has wide SCSI and fastE onboard, the 1 has 50pin SCSI and slowE onboard. The "Ultra 1 Creator", as far as I can tell anyway, is a 1E with a horizontal UPA slot instead of one of the SBUS slots.

Or switched covers!!! :-(

It has a UPA slot from what I and others can tell.
they are SCSI is 68 pin drives, I have taken them out to see what they were in past.. :-)

Best thing I tried was inserting diskett for boot time and found there isn't one :-(

Now I need to find a PPC machine to try Gentoo on !!!!

Thanks to everyone who post here for all the help and Information...

        Identifier  "Mouse0"
        Driver      "mouse"
        Option      "CorePointer"
        Option      "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
        Option      "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
        Option      "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
        Option      "Buttons" "7"
EndSection

Hrm, sparc-dev-sources on sparc32 probably isn't a good idea just yet, unless you're brave. It's a bit... erm... flaky.

How about the 2.6.2-rc2 ebuild that came out recently? I tried it last night on a Sparc 20 and got something like "the image is too big to load". I'm just waiting for it to rebuild with as much stuff modularised as possible.

Modules don't work for sparc32 with 2.6.x, so you'll have to really cut your kernel down. They might work by 2.6.3, if wesolows' latest magic does the trick, but right now they're a no go. Also note that SMP won't boot (hell, it won't even compile) with sparc32.

But hey, it's not a total loss for UP machines:

Code:
Linux sundrop 2.6.2-rc2-sparc #1 Thu Jan 29 18:41:07 GMT 2004 sparc sun4m Fujitsu  MB86904 GNU/Linux
