Hi,

I have a need that calls on increasing the inode number on ext4 FS. Of course, I'm planing to do this on freshly created partition.

My biggest concern is, can this action result in some problems later on? I mean, is it safe to increase the number of inodes for example on 100GB partition from default, which is around 6553600 to 20000000?
I've already tried this and it works just fine, but I'm still afraid I might hit a problem later on when the partition will be already deep in the production.

Any advice, links, whatever is welcome.
Thank you!

It works just fine. You can't change it later on without reformatting or resizing.

That's great to hear. But then I ask myself, why there is not much higher number by default?

Because reserving more space for inodes will reduce the space for normal files.
